Katie Showalter was an advanced standing Social Work Administration and Advocacy Practice (SWAAP) student in the Masters of Social Work program at the University of Kansas. Ms. Showalter completed her Bachelors of Social Work degree at the University of Kansas in May of 2012 and will be graduated from the Master’s program in May of 2013.  As an undergraduate student, Ms. Showalter gained researching experience as a research assistant in a psychological study of domestic violence among college-aged students. Additionally, Ms. Showalter has social work experience from her previous field education placement and AmeriCorps participation. She is worked as a Student Intern at the Kansas Coalition against Sexual and Domestic Violence (KCSDV) where she developed her skills working with state and federal legislation and in program management. In the future, she hopes to contribute to the social work field through social policy reform and one day pursue a PhD in social work.
